Police officer Lena Jörning is confronted with the first corpse of her professional career and recognizes her sister, whom she has not heard from for 12 years. The case raises many questions: When did Evelyn return? What roles do Evelyn's husband Claas and Lena's fiancé Bruno play in the death? The criminal investigation team arrives to take over the case. The investigation becomes a dramatic journey into the past for everyone involved, which - until then unrecognizable to Lena - overshadows even the present of the entire village.

The film describes the activity of an ABV of the People's Police in its section in East Berlin. A mixture of “positive” characters from the beginning, the extensively staged “owl”, who is introduced as a criminal and over the course of time, especially due to the influence of the ABV, develops into a good citizen, and incorrigible characters, with whom the ABV fails with its extensive attempts at rehabilitation and who are arrested after having committed again offenses.

Dr. Robert Siedler is an experienced forensic psychologist who is asked to prepare an expert opinion for the mentally disturbed ex-alcoholic Friedhelm Knecht, who has been in custody for a long time. According to his expert assessment, he is in favor of releasing the offender, whereupon Knecht is released from prison. Shortly afterwards, however, there is a murder in which the evidence points to Knecht as the perpetrator. The suspect goes on the run and when the case causes a stir in the press, Robert is quickly found to be the scapegoat and blamed for the murder. Robert himself is shocked: has he misjudged a case for the first time? Or was his expert opinion justified and is Knecht innocent?

A summer's day in Görlitzer Park, a place where the heart of the old Kreuzberg 36 still beats. Lupo: former punk rocker, plays the old songs on his acoustic guitar. Hymns to a life between canned beer, world revolution and Lidl. Burni, drummer: When the day is still fresh, he goes to the Görli and plays a round of golf with his caddy Steve. Many years ago, as an employee of the Reichsbahn, he is said to have organized the largest mass escape in the GDR. Stasi files prove the case. He was apparently even imprisoned and then deported to an open-cast lignite mine. Seduced by a lavish salary, Micha confirms the story, although only fragments of it are true.

As a result of the economic crisis, her father Frank becomes unemployed from one day to the next. This has unexpected consequences for the whole family. They have to say goodbye to their detached family home and move into a much smaller apartment. In contrast to her sister, who finds the new circumstances very difficult, Monette is a modest girl. What really bothers her, however, is that there are suddenly a lot of arguments in the family, almost always about money, and mutual recriminations. Monette doesn't want her family to suffer and thinks back and forth about what she could do to get money.
